Omaha
Omaha Poker is generally viewed as the second most popular version of the game after Texas Holdem.
However, many players would argue that Omaha is actually a much more exciting than Texas Holdem with hands being of higher values and enormous pot sizes being common.

How to play Omaha Poker
If you’re familiar with the rules of Texas Holdem, then you’ll be able to pick up Omaha fairly easily – the only real difference is that your final poker hand must be made up of your two hole cards and three community cards.
Texas Holdem allows you to use as many or as few of the community cards as you wish (in fact, your final poker hand could ignore your hole cards entirely and be made up purely of community cards. In Omaha this doesn’t happen. It’s your two hole cards and three others or your hand isn’t valid!
The blinds
As in Texas Holdem, blinds need to be placed into the middle of the table before any cards are dealt. The player to the immediate left of the nominated dealer is the small blind and the next player is the big blind.
The size of the big blind is generally half the size of the lower betting limit with the big blind being equal to the lower betting limit.
In other words, if you were playing a $3/$6 Omaha game, the small blind would be $1.50 and the big blind would be $3.
The role of the big and small blinds rotate around the table after every hand meaning that all players should pay two blinds in every circuit of play.
Dealing hole cards
With the blinds all paid up, the dealer places a single card face down in front of each player in turn until every player has four cards in front of them.
The first round of betting is then started by the player sitting to the immediate left of the dealer and every player has the chance to raise, call or fold in turn. Action always continues in a clockwise direction.
The Flop
With the first round of betting over, three community cards are dealt face up on the table. They can be used by all players in their final poker hand.
A second round of betting takes place.
The Turn
A fourth card (known as ‘The Turn’) is dealt face up alongside the previous three community cards.
Players are able to evaluate their hand based on this new card and then take part in another round of betting.
The River
The River is the final community card which is dealt. As with the other four cards, The River is dealt face up in the middle of the table.
A final round of betting starts. Come the end of this, if there is more than one player still holding cards, all players must turn over their hands with the player holding the highest hand being declared the winner.
Note: Remember, in Omaha all players have to use their two hole cards in their final hand.
Hand rankings
Hand rankings are exactly the same as they are in Texas Holdem – single cards are at the bottom of the pile with a royal flush being the best possible hand out there.
